From Setbacks to Set Apart: My Faith Journey Behind Klippette
From an early age, I’ve always known I was meant to create. As a child, I dreamt of becoming an entrepreneur—someone who could build not just a business, but a legacy rooted in purpose. Over the years, I pursued several small ventures, using each one as a steppingstone to something greater, all while holding down a full-time job in the banking industry.
In 2004, everything changed. I became a mother to my incredible son, and he became my greatest inspiration. I opened a children’s salon, Khai’s Kutz and Plaits, and later introduced Kamp Skhai A Bongo, a summer camp filled with fun and creativity. As a single mom, I wanted to give my son the best while sowing into the lives of other children. That same heart and drive led me to win Barbados Entrepreneur of the Year (2010) and the Barbados Small Business Services Award.
My spiritual journey also deepened along the way. Raised Anglican, I found a new spiritual home in a Pentecostal church and was baptized in 2016, becoming a member of Abundant Life Assembly in Barbados. Though I worshipped faithfully, I never moved unless I felt led by God—I believe in giving my all or nothing at all That obedience led to the transformation of my summer camp into a faith-based Christian experience. We welcomed all children, including those whose parents couldn’t fully afford it because the Word of God was too important to put a price on. The camp became a place of joy, laughter, worship, and purpose, with glowing feedback from parents who saw the difference in their children’s lives.
In 2012, I stepped into the hospitality industry as a Kids Club Manager and quickly rose through the ranks, eventually acting as General Manager. I led my team to achieve outstanding results, becoming a finalist in the Barbados Hospitality and Tourism Awards (2014).
But when the hotel was sold to a larger chain in 2019, everything changed. Jealousy, professional sabotage, and victimization followed. After being asked to act as GM, four Senior Members—threatened by my leadership—began to tear me down. When the new GM arrived, he joined them, and the atmosphere became unbearable. I handed in my resignation after 12 years. The GM instead of wishing me Success in my future endeavors officially relieved me after a few days of receiving my resignation letter which was to take effect at the end of the month. I went to The Labour Department to query if this was done correctly and was informed that it was wrongful dismissal.
That moment marked a turning point.
I tried working in other hotel roles, even as Hotel Manager, and though I brought value and productivity, I was still met with resistance and rejection. I began asking God, Why? But deep down, I knew He was preparing me for something greater—something divinely assigned.
That “something” is Klippette—a faith-based apparel brand rooted in bold identity, spiritual purpose, and kingdom calling. Through message-driven designs, children’s faith companions, and culturally resonant creations, Klippette was birthed in a season of pain, but raised in power. Every shirt, every sticker, every message reflects my journey of obedience, restoration, and purpose.
And just when I thought I was at my lowest, a 12-year-old girl—someone I’d never seen before—walked to my house with a message from God:
“God loves you. Don’t give up.”
That was all the confirmation I needed.
If you’ve ever felt overlooked, know this — God is writing your story too. Explore our pieces that speak life, because you are set apart.”
